WebAll-Clad patented the tri-ply design. Before the patent expired they were absolutely the best. Now that the patent has expired there are plenty of perfectly serviceable fantastic knockoffs. All-Clad is a brilliant company who designs fantastic cookware. However like Apple, you also have to pay big bucks for the name. Webdemeyere is noticably heavier, but the handle is far more comfortable and easier to grip (in my opinion). the handles are what made me look for other options past all-clad. demeyere laser welds their handles so there are no rivets to clean around. wasn't the big selling point for me, but it's definitely nice when cleaning.
